Hag's Fever is a recent magical ailment that only affects wizard-kind. First seen in May of 2025 in Great Britain, Hag's Fever is a highly contagious virus with no known cure. Symptoms of the virus include lethargy, coughing, body aches, sneezing fire, magical misfires, and emotional magical outbursts. Because of the flammability of affected patients, Hag's Fever is an incredibly dangerous malady.

Signs and Symptoms

Some of the symptoms of Hag's Fever are lethargy, coughing, body aches, sneezing fire, magical misfires, and emotional magical outbursts. While many of these symptoms can pass as an average cold, the fire, misfires and magical outbursts have made Hag's Fever a dangerous illness in regard to the Statute of Secrecy.

Because of the magical nature of this ailment, anyone showing symptoms is advised to report to a medical professional as soon as possible and to avoid non-magical society until symptoms subside. St. Mungo's has set up temporary nurse stations in several magical communities across the Isles to assist any ailing individuals.

Prognosis

Hag's Fever is inherently dangerous, not only due to the effect on the respiratory system but also due to the nature of the symptoms including sneezing fire. Patients often suffer severe burns. In mild cases, Hag's Fever will resolve on its own with bed rest and over-the-counter remedies within a month of symptom onset. In more severe cases, Hag's Fever can cause respiratory organ malfunction. There have been no reported deaths caused only by Hag's Fever, but it can be devastating for those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

Treatment and Cure

There is no known cure for Hag's Fever, though St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies set up a special ward for patients as the ailment is highly contagious. Mild cases can be treated with over the counter remedies and quarantine for two weeks from the onset of symptoms. Severe patients will require specialist potions provided by healers. All those afflicted with the disease must report their symptoms to the local government and quarantine, or risk spreading the ailment.
