“ | Now hear this, Blondie. I've never switched sides. I've not once betrayed any promise I made, nor given any false loyalty. I've ALWAYS been on the same side. Mine. | ” |
–Theodorus to Claire Slater |
Theodorus was one of the founding student members of the Purifiers. He eventually betrayed the Purifiers and acted as a mole for the Ministry. He was killed by Elaine Dupree after his betrayal was discovered.
Personality
Theodorus is, in a word, a warrior. He lives for the thrill of battle, wants nothing more than to fight strong people and crush them in combat. Every memory of his life has been preparation for combat, for war and glory, or in actual fights he was put in by his parents. He revels in battle, where his cloud-grey eyes spark like a thunderstorm, and the only place where his feral grin can be seen or his wild laughter heard. Theo doesn't even care which side he fights for, honestly, as long as the other side provides a good challenge for him. He loves the victory after the battle almost as much, loves phychologically breaking his defeated opponents, and those who have lost to him and refuse to stand back up become Theo's property in his own mind. That being said, what he seeks is a good fight, not just any fight. Those too weak or fearful to challenge him bore him, and he's not particularly interested in killing them, though he won't necessarily refuse to do it. Theo is also less than interested in keeping control over others. So long as they acknowledge him as their superior and don't act against him, he could care less. This is reflected in Theo's ability with the Unforgiveable Curses: Despite his young age, he can use the Killing Curse well, and he has a powerful Imperius Curse, but his Cruciatus Curse is weak, because torture doesn't interest him.
Ironically, despite being raised with pureblood ideals, Theo's battle-lust makes him less inclined toward that mentality. He still believes in pureblood supremacy as much as the rest of his family, but with a slight catch: blood determines his beliefs, but power determines his attitude. For example, a strong Muggleborn that could face him would actually earn more respect from Theo than an equally-strong pureblood, because in Theo's point of view, the Muggleborn has overcome their natural disadvantages and become truly powerful. In the other direction, Theo hates weak purebloods more than half-bloods or Muggleborns. This attitude won't change his actions, though; if you're the enemy, Theo will destroy you, respect or not. All that matters to him is the fight, but he's not so blind as to turn on his own side just to sate his bloodlust.
Theo rarely smiles outside of combat. Normally, he is stoic, quiet, and observant. And a love of battle doesn't make Theo stupid. He is extremely cunning and clever when he wants to be, and is just as capable of assassination as he is a duel to the death. He is quite arrogant, believing purebloods to be superior and himself to be even moreso, but he has the skill and strength to back up his ego. What makes Theodorus truly dangerous is that he has no real emotional buttons to provoke. He's happy to taunt you about your family, love life, grades, whatever, all day long, but if you try to do it to him, he'll flat-out shrug it off, because as long as he is stronger, only his words matter. In fact, Theo's fear of growing old makes him a much more dangerous opponent: unlike many Dark Wizards, who will not engage opponents in a fair fight owing to the value they place on their lives, Theo is happiest in a duel where he could die, because he fears for his youth most of all. For this reason, Theo's only true non-competitive interests are Potions and Alchemy, as he searches for the key to eternal youth, so that he may live and fight forever.
Theo's interest in the opposite sex also reflects his personal attitude and goals: he will only marry a pureblood, as befitting his status, but he is attracted to power, rather than looks or blood.
History
Theodorus Nott is the older of two children. His family lineage is steeped in Dark wizards: among his family are Thorfinn Rowle, his granduncle who was imprisoned in Azkaban at the end of the last war, and Theodore Nott, his father, who was at Hogwarts in the same year as Harry Potter, one of the only Slytherins in that year who did not blindly follow the lead of Draco Malfoy. Theodore and Nephele chose to homeschool their children, unwilling to put him under the care of the new pro-Muggle Ministry and Hogwarts. They themselves had done nothing during the Battle of Hogwarts, having been detained by other Slytherin students along with any others with relatives among the Death Eaters, and were not eager to place their children into what could easily become a hostage situation, a reverse of what Voldemort had tried to do. Thus, Theodorus was raised from childhood and trained by his parents and their allies the “fight” way.
Theodorus was raised, like many purebloods, to read between the lines of conversation and to think ahead and plan their moves, actions, and words. He had a natural patience and cunning that might have served him in a political career, save for one glaring flaw: he was far too straightforward, quick to call others out and lay out what they were trying to say without saying. He had the patience, but not the attitude, so politics was shelved for him. His cunning paid off in other ways, though: he proved himself highly adept at Potions, able to time a decoction down to the right second in his head, even while preparing other ingredients for use, a natural talent that even his father lacked. This translated well to training as an assassin—he had the patience and discipline to learn to wait for that tiny opportunity to strike an enemy down with a single spell. From his mother's side of things, though, Theodorus had a battle-lust in his very blood. The Rowle family was often noted as being very physical for purebloods, training their bodies as much as their minds, and proving to be terrifying on the battlefield. Indeed, Thorfinn Rowle had been one of Voldemort's top enforcers: despite his lack of real dueling skill, Thorfinn's sheer size and willingness to spam the Killing Curse had made him a Death Eater to be feared. But Theodorus was blessed with more intelligence and skill. His strength and speed are phenomenal, built up to give him an edge in dueling, and he was taught a variety of methods beyond wands with which to fight. Theodorus is an adept swordsman and fully capable of killing with his bare hands if he has to. He was also trained to use two wands in tandem; the wands share heartstrings from the same dragon, allowing them to work together superbly well.
Thus was Theo's early life. He was betrothed to another Pureblood family, as was the norm, his future wife Aurora Lestrange. Their early interactions left a good impression on Theo--Aurora was a strong pureblood witch, and he grew up liking her well enough. He and his sister were raised similarly, and she is the one person in the world Theo has no real desire to fight and dominate, simply because they've always been raised to be on the same side. But, they were also raised not to become too attached to one another—Theo and his sister have been raised so that you can't, for example, get one of them to surrender by holding the other hostage. They love each other, would never betray each other—but they are fully capable of letting one another go. Beyond his sister, Theodorus has a few friends his own age, but none of them go to Hogwarts. Outside of his circle, few have ever seen him, though some pureblood families are aware of Theo's existence. He never spoke of it, but Theo slowly developed a desire to go to Hogwarts—none of the children he knew were a challenge for him in duels, and he longed to see more of the world, to fight those who could fight back.
Theodore originally planned to keep his children out of Hogwarts entirely, but recent events have altered his plans. Nott was never stupid, and he knew the recent string of killings meant another pureblood order was forming. He began to reach out to former Death Eaters, looking to join this order and work from the shadows. He also took in Thorfinn Rowle after the latter escaped from Azbakan in the mass breakout of former Death Eaters. And when the second student turned up dead, Nott realized the truth: the killer was someone at Hogwarts, likely a student. Though it took Nephele a while to move all the paperwork through the Ministry without Harry Potter or his allies from knowing about it, he successfully enrolled his son into Hogwarts late.
2022- Death
Theodorus came to the castle for the first time in his life for his 7th year. Under his father's orders, he is to seek out this new Dark Lord and join them, with his sister joining them later. Theodorus complied without question. He was eventually able to team up with Elaine Dupree and Desirae Rousseau and joined the Purifiers. Theodorus' involvement during the year was minimal, to avoid detection and was treated as Elaine's muscle when needed. In his downtime he form a strong rivalry, turned romance, with Gryffindor Abigail Shacklebolt.
“ | You act like you’re happy to be out of the castle, Little Girl. Can’t imagine why, one broom closet’s the same as any other. Speaking of which—where’s the nearest one? | ” |
–Theodorus to Abigail Shacklebolt |
Like many other Purifiers, Theodorus did not know about the April Fools day attack until it was in full swing. Despite putting up a strong fight, he was eventually taken against his will to the Purifier safe house, where he met Alastor Draven. He wasn't present during the rescue however, and was outed as a Purifier.
During the Fall of 2023 he rekindled his romance with Abigail Shacklebolt, who was now an Auror-in-training. With her assistance he became a mole for the Ministry, passing along vital Purifier information. He is the one that revealed Desirae Roussea's identity as a dancer at Club Indigo, that eventually led to her death. After Desirae's death, however, Elaine grew very suspicious of Theodorus and her suspicions were confirmed in early 2024. Elaine led Theodorus and Abigail into a trap, and killed them both.
