Viktor Krum, former Quidditch star, is the British Minister of Magic, taking up the appointment after the death of previous minister Hermione Granger.
Personality
Viktor is more open with his emotions in his later years. He spent most of his teen and young adult years being rather grumpy about people digging into his personal life just because he was a Quidditch star. He isn’t as closed off as he used to be and reserving how he feels to just the people he deems friends and who he’s close to. That doesn’t mean he’s trusting to strangers and still keeps very personal details to himself and his small circle of close friends and family. Unlike before he’s more laid back in his retirement years and instead more focused on the lives and happiness of his children.
Even now as Viktor lives in England he has immense pride in his homeland and honor towards his family back home as well as the friend a family he had here. Krum does not accept talking ill of his loved ones and makes no attempt to hide that fact. Even with all the changes in his life Krum is still the type of person to show good manners and respect when they are given or returned. Rarely putting up with rude or ignorant people toward himself and especially toward the people close to him.
History
Viktor was born on August tenth to Egon and Lore Krum and had a relatively normal childhood growing up in a magical community in Bulgaria. The only thing that set Krum apart from the other children was that he was taller than most of the other children and his obsession with brooms and flying from a very young age. By the age of seven all the brooms in the Krum household had to be locked away or else young Viktor would be on it in a heartbeat. He was a child born to play quidditch it seemed as his obsession for flying quickly translated to that of being a seeker. Flying around the sky, being the deciding factor in a match. All of that appealed to the young child and his parents supported him in this endeavor.
At the age of eleven Viktor was accepted into the far off school of Durmstrang. Something his father was immensely proud of as he was an alumni of the school. The school had a reputation of never accepting muggle-borns and for openly teaching the dark arts. Never the less Viktor was excited to go, only imagining how amazing a school for magic could be in person. He was quickly disappointed at where he found himself. It wasn’t warm and inviting like he was expecting, this castle was in very cold land compared to his home most of the year. The staff and castle itself even seemed to insist that no fire was to be lit unless for an important purpose. Staying warm wasn’t important enough it would seem. Still the young Krum grew to respect and honor the school where his family had been taught. It also didn’t hurt that he was allowed to play quidditch in his first year when most were still learning to fly it appeared.
Anytime that wasn’t going to Quidditch was reserved for studying and class work for Viktor. Durmstrang was a very strict place, the staff didn’t toy with the notion that someone could slack off. The school expected the best and they were going to get it. Viktor excelled at most if not all of his classes, if he hadn’t they wouldn’t allow him to continue playing quidditch. That was till he was scouted during his final years at Durmstrang to play for the Bulgarian National Quidditch team. It was the highlight of his life at the moment and cemented the fact that he wanted to be a professional seeker and win the World Cup. Sadly they didn’t win the World Cup in 1994, they tried their hardest but even with Viktor catching the snitch they couldn’t defeat the Irish National team. Still he was able to end the game on his terms and no one could take that from him.
Viktor returned for his final year at Durmstrang and expected it to be a quiet year especially compared to the summer he just had. Instead the students of Durmstrang learned of the Tri-wizard tournament, an event that hadn’t happened for over a hundred years. The school was a buzz with the news and the sudden disappoint from most of the students as they learned that only the seventh years would be going to Hogwarts for the event. Also that one lucky or possibly unlucky student would be competing. Viktor was just happy to see another Wizarding school and see how they compare. Sometime in mid October all of the seventh year student body boarded a massive board for their trip to Hogwarts. Viktor didn’t know where exactly this Hogwarts was but if they were going by boat it would take sometime. Instead of setting sail the boat quickly started to sink. Some students panicked others seems to know what was happening while the headmaster just laughed like a madman at the students who panicked.
Just as quick as the boat was underwater it was surfacing again, this time in a lake just outside of a different much larger castle. This was Hogwarts for sure, he didn’t need to wait for anyone to bother explaining what happened to decide that. Once off the boat the Durmstrang and Beauxbaton schools were welcomed by Hogwarts. Viktor was hesitant to put his name in the goblet of fire. The attention he was getting just from competing in the World Cup was getting to him he probably didn’t need anymore of it. Still he couldn’t pass up the chance to make his school and parents proud. Viktor questioned what the chances were that he would be picked out of all the seventh years. Yet as fate would have it he was the one chosen to represent Durmstrang. Along side Fleur Delacour of Beauxbaton and Cedric Diggory. Most surprising another name came out of the goblet of Fire, this one belonging to Harry Potter. It was a confusing time as it would appear Hogwarts would have two champions somehow and nothing could change this at the goblet itself was a type of magical contract. Viktor just about to assumed Hogwarts and this Potter boy were up to something if he hadn’t seemed so reluctant to even compete and tried to get out of it.
While they waited for news of the first trial the champions would face Viktor enjoyed exploring the Hogwarts castle. If only he could avoid the crowds of girls that insisted on following him wherever he went. He dreamed of being a professional quidditch seeker and winning but he wasn't prepared for the non-stop attention from strangers. Those who just saw him for his celebrity. Which is why one girl in particular stuck out to him while at Hogwarts she seemed to be one of the few girls at this school who didn’t follow him or even care who he was. It started with a curiosity as to why and grew from there as Krum nervously wondered who she was and how he could talk to her. Fighting his own nerves and accent when speaking English he was able to talk to Hermione.
As the first trial drew near Viktor was informed by his headmaster that it involved dragons. Viktor didn’t like the idea of knowing this before hand as it seemed like cheating but his headmaster assured him that all the other champions knew this as well. Viktor believed him or possibly just wanted to believe this was true so he didn’t have to feel guilty. He trained in secret till the day of the trial and felt ready up to the moment he drew what dragon he would face. Watching two other champions go before him he wasn’t as sure of himself as he once was but once it was his turn he made short work of the dragon by blinding it to get to his egg. Sadly the dragon in its blind fury smashed Viktor’s egg. He still ended up tying for first with Potter even with losing points for getting his own egg smashed.
As nervous as Krum was for the first trial or even playing in the World Cup Quidditch he was more nervous for that he did next. He asked Hermione to the Yule ball and he was never more surprised when she said yes. It was a beautiful night which he spent dancing with Hermione while she kindly attempted to teach him how to actually say her name. Sadly it didn’t take as his accent was working against him. The next trial was quickly upon them, again his headmaster dropped subtle hints about what it involved. Krum didn’t protest this time willing to believe that everyone was also getting such help from their schools. After learning that Hermione had gone missing it was revealed it was part of the second trial.
A person special to each champion was taken and being held by the merpeople in the lake. Viktor managed to turn partially into a shark, just enough to breath underwater. He found Hermione and attempted to save her but couldn’t till he received some help from Harry Potter. Viktor got third place to Harry even with coming back before him. Still he had no problem with this, he had helped him after all and he was far more worried about Hermione than the contest at the moment. Right in that moment Viktor confessed his feelings for Hermione and expressed his desire that she spend the summer with him and his family. He didn’t get a response to either but he was willing to wait.
The third trial was where everything went wrong. The champions had to navigate a maze and find the Triwizard Cup. Instead what Viktor found was a death eater who had been disguised as a professor. He was placed under the imperius curse and forced to attack anyone to get Harry to go the cup first. He attacked fellow champion Cedric Diggory but was stopped by Harry Potter. Viktor came too after it was all over to learn what had happened and that Cedric had died. The death of that young man hit him hard. The last thing Viktor ever did was attack him even if he was forced to do it and now he was dead. Cedric had only ever been kind to him as well.
Viktor returned to Durmstrang after saying goodbye to Hermione, saying they would stay in touch even if they had decided to just be friend. It wasn’t what he wanted ideally but he would take Hermione being a close friend rather than nothing. Once home and out of school he continued to play for the Bulgaria Quidditch team. He felt like he had plenty of attempts at the World Cup but each time it slipped out of his fingers in the last few games. Still he kept trying his best hoping each year would be the year he would have the cup as his own.
Years and years past, Viktor met a beautiful woman named Elena, a fellow Quidditch player and he was quickly smitten with her. It wasn’t long before the two were married and not long after that Elena was pregnant, for the longest time Viktor’s only dream was to win the World Cup but that changed to becoming a dad pretty quickly. They named there first child, a son, Edrik which was a perfectly fine name. Viktor had floated a couple of other names to his wife like his fathers name Egon, or his fallen friend and ex-champion Cedric but she chose Edrik. Viktor knew what battles he could fight with his wife and which ones he just wasn’t going to win. This was one he let go.
Viktor dreamed of teaching his son to play quidditch. He still had hopes of winning the World Cup but now he had a child who needed attention and if he could he would love for him to follow in his footsteps. It wasn’t long till Elena informed Viktor that she was pregnant again and Viktor was just as surprised again. He jokingly toyed with idea that if they could have enough children they could have their own Quidditch team and would be bound to win the World Cup for sure. Yet after his second child was born Viktor stepped away from Quidditch. Taking the time to be there for his wife, son and new born child. He disliked missing the chance to win the World Cup but Viktor loved his family more. Now with a son and daughter Viktor felt content with his life, he might be missing the cup but he had a boy and girl to raise which was a joy in itself. Fate seemed to have other plans and not long after Irina was born Elena was already pregnant with their third child. He assured Elena that he was just kidding about having his own Quidditch team made up of his own children.
What started as just a year away from Quidditch evolved into a four year journey of raising his two children followed by a third and even a fourth. Iliana being his third child and Raina his fourth. It seemed fate decided he would have daughters from here on out. He loved every moment and only took the lost of Bulgaria at the World Cup in the very first round a little personal. If he had been there Viktor knew it would have been different. Yet with chasing around four different children he didn’t have much time to dwell on that. Once the family wasn’t as crazy and assuring Elena that she would have help with the children Viktor returned to Quidditch. As much as he avoided the fans as a teen he couldn’t help but enjoy the cheering at his return just a little. Over the years he watched his children grow up missing as few events in their lives as he could.
In 2014 Viktor’s life long dream came true, the Bulgarian national team won the Quidditch world up. It was an incredible game but they managed to defeat the Brazilian team. He even cried as it caught the snitch in joy, his wife only repeatedly brought up how he didn’t even cry at their own wedding though. Just before Edrik’s eleventh birthday Elena informed him of a job offer she has received to work for the ministry. It wasn’t something she could honestly pass up. Edrik would also be going to school soon and while Viktor had immense pride for Durmstrang he couldn’t help but be impressed and a little jealous he hadn’t gone to Hogwarts. With that the family decided to move to England.
Viktor transferred to the Appleby Arrows Quidditch team and proudly played for them while he watched each one of his children get sorted into different houses at hogwarts. Viktor eventually retired from Quidditch after an especially bad game where he was majorly injured, no longer able to take the bludger hits like he used to he stepped away from the game he loved at least professionally. Viktor had ideas of relaxing and watching his children grow, being there for them. Yet as the he found himself home while his wife was at work and children at school or following their own careers retirement started to get boring for him.
He also couldn’t help but be worried by the state of things in Europe, the school they had moved just for the children to go to was being attacked multiple times and a student even died. It only brought back terrible memories of what happened during the Tri-Wizard tournament. Which didn’t help that it was coming around again, this year he only hoped for a peaceful event. Which it was at least during the tournament. Hogwarts won this year and while he made it appear he was rooting for Hogwarts he had hopes Durmstrang would be victorious. To make up for where he had failed years and years ago. Just as he thought he could breath a sigh of relief tragedy stuck. Both Durmstrang and Beauxbaton schools were attacked as they returned home and there were very few survivors.
So far the new school year has been quiet with the only major events being that the American school of Ilvermorny has joined Hogwarts this year. Still Viktor has two children in Hogwarts and it makes him very nervous with everything happening.
