A fanatical American No-Maj group that seeks to expose and destroy wizardkind. Witch Hunters, or Second Salemers can vary in terms of extremism from those that merely want to expose wizardkind to protect their fellow non-magical beings to those that are violent and seek to actually kill wizardkind.

While Witch Hunters are world wide they are most prevalent in America. They have been growing more and more active in Europe though.

HISTORY

17th century America was a wild and lawless place for magical beings. The Scourers, European Witches and Wizards that had settled in America were vigilantes and bounty-hunters, who lived by no rules by their own. At the time, there was no magical government in the United States. They would capture innocent non-magical beings and pass them off as witches to witch hunts to collect bounties. Some of the Salem Witch trial judges were even Scourers themselves. When MACUSA was formed they rounded up most the Scourers but a handful managed to evade capture by hiding in non-magical society. Outcast from magical society the surviving Scourers collected and created many magical artifacts. They relied upon these items instead of using their own magical abilities to avoid MACUSA capture.

Over the generations, the Scourers magical bloodlines dried up (squib). Their descendants have become angry and spiteful towards witches and wizards. This anger soon led them to begin their own witch hunts.

ABILITIES

Due to their magical heritage, the Scourer descendants have retained just enough magical ability to interact with the magical world and not be fooled by most anti-muggle spells, but not enough to actually perform magic in any way.

They are able to use magical items.

They do not retain any other magical characteristics and are ‘muggle/no-maj’ in every way.

Muggleborn/No-Maj born have an unnaturally high chance of being Obscurials and dying at a very young age. The very few that don’t become magical parasites only avoid it by completely abandoning their families before their magical abilities are discovered by their family.

TOOLS

Modern day Second Salemers (Witch Hunters) utilize magical artifacts created or collected by their magical ancestors that were banished from Magical society. These artifacts are passed down in the families.

Basic tools:

  • Magic repelling pendant -Spells fired at someone wearing one of these pendants will be reflected back on the caster at 50% strength. (Only works on nonlethal spells.)
  • Magic dampening pocket watch - 20 foot radius, 10 minute limit, 4 hour recharge. Magic does not work within the radius.
  • Glamour spectacles - 2 hour limit, 24 hour recharge. Lets the wearer see through any sort of magical illusion or attention diverting spells. (Second salemers can naturally see through muggle diverting enchantments, so this is for illusions and enchantments that can affect magical beings.)
  • Magic finding Compass - 10 uses per day. The compass will point towards the strongest magical force (enchantments, magical beings, etc) in 500 yards.
  • 1 Custom tool of your own making - We want all our WH's to have a standard set of tools, and then the ability to become their own unique person based off unique family heirlooms that only they have.
